God's Word of hope gives encouragement. How does someone move from no hope to hope, from feeling hopeless to being hopeful? When you need hope, how do you get hope? Apart from God, I really don't know how one receives hope. Read more of my experience in finding hope.
Over and over again, God's Word — portions of Scripture — remind me that He is with me, working in me, and giving me strength and everything else that I need to get through whatever circumstances I'm facing.
His Word brings reality to me — He is with me — always with me and will always be with me — AND that gives me hope. Because of Him, I have hope and am hopeful.
The Bible assures us with this powerful declaration:
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
For me, it seems that I receive hope the most through His Word. Also from others sharing His Word — written, spoken, sung — their experiences/their stories — and how He helped them.
All these encourage me that no matter how awful it is or gets, He will always, always, always be with me and will NEVER let me go.
The Bible also makes it clear with this amazing promise:
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'" (Hebrews 13:5).
God's Word brings hope.
Psalm 119, verses 49 and 50, has been a real encouragement to me over the years:
"Remember your word to your servant, / Upon which You have caused me to hope. / This is my comfort in my affliction, / For Your word had given me life."
The Word of God causes me to hope AND gives me life. Somehow, in a way I don't understand nor can I explain, His Word is alive.
When I read Scripture in the Holy Bible prayerfully, His Word gives me a transfusion of life — His life permeates through my being. I can't see it or feel it, but it wonderfully happens.
Jesus is our source of hope, and He wants us to have lots of it. And He ministers it to us through His Word by the power of His Holy Spirit.
Like the prayer that the apostle Paul prayed for the early Christians in Rome (about A.D. 56), my prayer for you is:
"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).
Receive God's Word of hope. Read the Book of John quietly with your heart open; meditate on it prayerfully. Jesus is lovingly waiting to give you a transfusion of hope and life. And He's available 24/7.
